Diaper Bag 101

“I waved goodbye to my purse. Goodbye cute little clutch, with my lipstick, compact, cell phone, and wallet. Hello, large, bulky backpack with… EVERYTHING IN THE WORLD!!!” – anonomos mommy blogger

MOMS SHOULD NOT FEEL LIKE THIS.

I see too many moms lugging around these massive duffle bag looking things, overflowing with who knows what. What are these bags you ask? Diaper bags. Wait a second, aren’t diaper bags supposed to be chic, simple, easy to carry around with only the bare minimum inside? YES! This is why I am giving all you current moms and moms to be a diaper bag 101 lesson so you don’t make the same duffle bag mistake all THOSE moms are making. My goal is for moms who read this to be comfortable and feel great whenever they are with their little ones, wherever they may be!

*A diaper bag is an accessory for mommy, not for baby. For example, I am a mom, I just had a baby boy but I love the color pink. Pink is great! The diaper bag is an accessory for you and you need to love what you’re carrying around! You need to feel chic, girly and feminine with your diaper bag because it represents you!

*Keep your tiny clutch or your mini wristlet because you can still use it! Use your wristlet to keep your money, cedit cards and ID in. Yes, you may bring your favorite lip gloss. Then put it in one of the amazing side pockets provided by your fabulous diaper bag :) Do not move everything from your purse to your diaper bag. Ladies, it’s time to downsize and get rid of the unnecessary. Remember, bare minimum.

*Pack only the bare minimum. Again, only pack the bare essentials in your diaper bag because you will leave all that extra baggage in your car. That bag of toys to keep your little one occupied, leave it in your car. All those extra diapers and box of bulky wipes.. leave all that in your car! You only need one diaper, a tiny amount of wipes, one mini water bottle, binky and a changing pad. If your are breast feeding no bottle needed. Do pack a change of clothes for you and your baby but leave that in your car. Most cases if baby begins to have a melt down, it is time to go to your car and go home anyway. Your car is your pack- horse, not your diaper bag.

What to look for when purchasing a diaper bag

*Versatile is my most favorite word ever. Functionality. It applies to everything and anything including your diaper bag. When shopping for your perfect diaper bag look for something simple that will match with whatever outfit you wear. The simpler the better.

*Durable- Finding a diaper bag made from quality, durable fabric is most important. You need a bag that will hold together through many many diaper changing adventures and outings! The bags fabric should be easy to wipe down and clean preferable made from vinyl or leather. Make sure your diaper bags seams are reinforced to avoid breakage and all the zippers are functioning properly.

*Pockets for organizing. Water resistant pockets are the best. When you reach into your diaper bag, endlessly searching for something will be the last thing you want to deal with. Functioning pockets provide a way for you to keep the things you pack separate from one another and will help you stay organized. Knowing where your items are is very important. Also make sure your diaper bag has an insulated bottle pocket if you are not breastfeeding.

*Thick adjustable shoulder strap- Your baby will either be in a stroller or in your arms and having a diaper bag that has a comfortable strap will save your life. A diaper bag strap that converts into a stroller strap is the best. Your baby is heavy and your bag will add on a few extra pounds to your daily lifting so having a strap that doesn’t kill your arm or dig into your shoulder is necessary. Diaper bags should be worry free.

*Removable changing mat- Every diaper bag should include a removable changing mat and it needs to have a water resistant coating. If your changing mat is attached how are you supposed to wash it? Make sure it’s removable.

Lastly, Moms make sure you restock your diaper bag and car every time you return home. This is imperative. Be prepared for anything :)

Rolled Banana Snacks

Peanut Butter & Banana Snack

I came across this snack recipe and fell in LOVE!  It’s great for mommies who are expecting! If you already have kiddos this snack would be really fun to make together in the kitchen one afternoon.  This recipe is easy and filled with nutrients beneficial for you and your baby!

          1.  Spread a banana with peanut butter or almond butter
          2. Slice into bite size pieces
          3. Roll bite size banana piece in rice krispies or granola
          4. EAT & ENJOY!

BENEFITS OF EATING BANANAS DURING PREGNANCY

Bananas are rich in potassium which can help you feel energized.  Potassium helps maintain fluid and electrolyte balance in your body’s cells. Since your blood volume expands by up to 50 percent during pregnancy, you’ll need slightly more electrolytes to keep the extra fluid in the right chemical balance.  Bananas can help calm leg cramps… cramps are caused my a lack of potassium.

Bananas also contain vitamin B6 which helps your body metabolize protein, fats, and carbohydrates.  It also helps form new red blood cells, antibodies, and neurotransmitters, and is vital to your baby’s developing brain and nervous system. (may relieve nausea or vomiting)

Banana’s are rich in potassium so they can actually help ease constipation in some cases.  The rich fiber in bananas can help relieve diarrhea as well.

Tips For YOU During Your 3rd Trimester!

 Third Trimester Sleep Tips

Sleep on your left side.  This allows for the best blood flow to the fetus, your uterus and kidneys.  It also improves circulation of blood back to the heart.  Body pillow may help you sleep better but for me they just took up more of my personal space and it felt like a third person in my bed.  If you’re getting a lot of swelling and begin snoring, call you doctor.  If you develop Restless Legs Syndrome, talk to your doctor about an iron deficiency.

Avoid sodas and other carbonated drinks, they can cause leg cramps and not the normal leg cramp you’ve ever experienced, these are painful, wake you up in the middle of the night cramps!  If you are getting leg cramps, straighten your leg and flex your foot upwards, this will help get the kink out.  If you can’t sleep get up and do something else. Read, watch T.V., listen to music, clean, you may get tired enough to want to go back to bed.  Do these several times before going to bed as a stretching routine to avoid the cramps all together.

Keep up the good works moms to be!  You’re almost there!  Need last minute items? Our clothing at Modish will make you feel comfortable and help you look even more fabulous!  www.modishmaternity.com

Showing Faster with the Second Pregnancy?

Remember waiting and waiting for your baby bump to look like a baby bump?  I waited for 6 months to actually look round and pregnant with my first baby.  The second time around I knew I was pregnant because my clothes were getting tight at 8 weeks and by 3 months I had the bump I waited 6 months for the first time around.  So your bump will probably show much earlier than last time.  You’re body went through it once and knows exactly what’s going on the second time around.

Today most of my clients were expecting their second babies and they all came in on a mission.  Why?  Because they know that this time around they want to be comfortable and look fabulous the ENTIRE TIME so they buy clothing early that they can wear through out their whole pregnancy and after.  After?  Yes!  It turns out you can do that.  Most of the brands we carry are designed for pregnancy and nursing.  You need clothes for nursing?  Yup!  Who wants to be out and about with your new bundle of joy and realize that you have to pull up your shirt or dress and expose new found mid-section just to feed your baby.  Sure, you could find a private place like the bathroom stall but who wants to feed their baby there?  Your second pregnancy will be different, you will show earlier but this time ‘ROUND you got it!!!

What’s the First Thing I’ll Need to Buy?

A Bella Band!  Go ahead, flaunt your bump. Let the bellaband hold your pants up during Pregnancy. Give yourself more wardrobe choices by wearing Bellaband with your pre–pregnancy clothes that are too small or maternity clothes that are too big.

Wear the Bellaband with unbuttoned or unzipped pre-pregnancy jeans, pants, skirts and shorts.  Fold the Bellaband to add a layer that hides buttons and zippers, or use it as a single layer to cover your waistband and belly.  The Bellaband even helps your clothes last longer when they eventually become too tight.  It will also hold up loose maternity clothes, concealing excess fabric and smoothing out panels and elastic waistbands.

Use it after baby too!

You can’t leave the hospital in pre-pregnancy clothes (and if you can, we don’t want to hear about it).

Once your baby arrives, wear Bellaband with maternity clothes that gradually become too large or pre-pregnancy clothes that are too snug.  Nursing? Wear Bellaband under any shirt to give yourself extra coverage when you lift your top from below.

You will use the bellaband throught out and after your pregnancy – Buy at http://www.modishmaternity.com or call our store we ship!!!

Must have accesories

One of the must have trends in maternity fashion is accessories.  Fashion is not just about clothing anymore, you can now add the perfect pops of colors from cuffs, cocktail rings to bejeweled collar necklaces.  Transforming an entire outfit with a piece of jewelry is what fashion is all about.  Using fashion accessories in different ways is one of the easiest ways to make you look like you have a larger wardrobe than you do becaue we all know your maternity wardrobe is much smaller than what you are used to.  By adding a piece of jewelry, a scarf, a belt or rotating shoes.  You can make a small inventory of clothes look like a bottomless closet.  Take a look at our mannequin, a belt can create a pop in your outfit.  This look is a must have!

Yes!  www.modishmaternity.com has some unique pieces to add that splash to your wardrobe!
