Designer Maternity Denim: Buyer Beware!!!

Designer Maternity Denim:  Buyer Beware!

I loved this post from another blog because I’ve been telling my customers this for years now.  Be very careful when it comes to you maternity denim.  In short, maternity stores (we’ll call them “P in the P”) will purchase regular jeans from designers, cut the top off and add a belly band.  They are not cut for a pregnant body and they don’t fit correctly.  Buyer beware!!!  Don’t waste your money…   Here is the post below.

“Most of the women I know, including me, would swear that a good pair of jeans is definitely worth what you pay.  Whether it’s the fit, the durability, the style, or simply the desire for a brand name, nothing can compare to that one item in your closet that always makes you look and feel chic.  Spending the extra $$ on this wardrobe necessity isn’t a problem for some women.  I would imagine, however, they would have a problem if what they were paying for wasn’t exactly what they thought.

Yes, we may in some cases purchase a knock-off Louis or a pair of red-soled pumps to pass as Louboutins, but we buy them at a very discounted price from the originals and expect that it’s going to lack some of the qualities of the “real thing.”  But, what if you bought one of these replica items for the price of the original and with the belief that it truly was the designer?  This is exactly what some companies are doing with their designer maternity denim.

Recently, I found out that some companies purchase designer denim and replace the original waistband structure with their own maternity bands.  Now this would be perfectly fine if they advertised it as such and charged a little less because they are not selling the true form of the designer jean.  Instead, they don’t disclose this information and pass them off as manufactured solely by the designer, meaning you pay designer denim prices.  Does anyone else think this is absurd?  I was shocked.  Thankfully, I haven’t purchased any denim from these companies, or I would have immediately made an unhappy call to their customer service department.  I am still perturbed on behalf of the many women who do buy jeans from these places without having this information.

So, if you’re looking for that great pair of jeans to carry you through your pregnancy, please make sure to do your homework.  If the designer doesn’t originally make maternity jeans (check their website), chances are you’re not going to find a pair at the store.  And if you do, ask questions.  Make sure you are really getting what you pay for!”

Maternity Fashion Tip #3 “Buy Clothes That will Last”
Jan 31st, 2010 by Tammy

3. Buy Clothes That will Last

Avoid buying pieces that only give you a limited amount of pregnancy wear. We carefully pick and design garments with that wrap, rouch, streatch and drape to create a clean look that will grow with you throughout your entire pregnancy.  Don’t be afraid of jerseys, they are extremely comfortable and very forgiving.  And, thanks to technology we have found jerseys that create little to no pill.  Horray for for that!  But, if wovens are more your thing, we have perfected that too.

Maternity Fashion Tip #2 “Don’t Wear HIS Clothes”

2. Don’t Wear HIS Clothes.

While it may have been cute while you were dating, hubby doesn’t want to see you growing into them.  Like I mentioned in tip #1, don’t make the mistake of buying bigger clothes. Or better yet, wearing HIS clothes.  You’ll just look frumpy, or even worse, you’ll feel frumpy.  Bigger clothes will just sag and bag around your figure and you’ll loose your beautiful silhouette.

Maternity Fashion Tip #1 “Don’t Delay”
Jan 5th, 2010 by Tammy

1. Don’t Delay!

This was the biggest mistake I made with my first pregnancy.  I waited and waited to buy maternity clothes, then I mistakenly decided to purchase clothes a size bigger.  I don’t know why.  I waisted money on clothes that I only used for a month!  Besides, if you keep buying bigger clothes you’ll have to buy the next size up once a month just to cover your bump.  Maternity clothes are designed to grow with you.  Invest your money well and buy only once, not once a month…  I knew better for my second pregnancy.  Now I can tell you that well-designed maternity clothes will last from the moment you find out your pregnant through your “4th trimester” (not just 9 months!)  We can help you choose your maternity wardrobe (from basics to the extravagant) to flatter your new figure.  Don’t delay, the sooner you buy, the more comfortable you’ll be.   Isn’t shopping for a whole new wardrobe fun?  Now you have an excuse to shop and you can justify it to your husband!
